Sessions & Tracks

Track 1: Addiction

Addiction is outlined as not having management over doing, taking or exploitation one thing to the purpose wherever it can be harmful to you. People with addiction use substances or engage in behaviours that become compulsive and often continue despite harmful consequences.

Addiction harms not only the individual person with the addiction but also everyone around them. If one could experience significant substantial harm from substance use or an activity but probably would not label one’s behavioural addiction unless it happens regularly. People are genetically predisposed to repeat things that are rewarding or bringing about pleasure. The addicted person might find it valuable because it reduces anxiety and helps them provide a temporary escape from dismal circumstances or sheer boredom. Perhaps it helped to briefly relieve depression

Track 2: Alcoholism

Alcohol being readily available and considered a social drink, most people fall prey to alcohol addiction. Rampage drinking is a serious problem of heavy anecdotal drinking, a modern sobriquet for drinking alcoholic beverages with the primary intention of becoming intoxicated by heavy consumption of alcohol over a short period of time. This type of problematic drinking which leads to alcohol dependency is called alcoholism. In this addiction various psychological and clinical changes takes place in the human body including alcoholic liver diseases. Women alcoholism during pregnancy may result in foetal alcohol syndrome which is a pattern of severe physical and mental defects in the developing fetus. Alcohol poses a major threat causing DNA methylation and inhibition in neural stem cell differentiation. DNA methylation significantly affects gene expression as alcohol hinders the process and access of folate and inhibition in neural stem cell differentiation retards olfaction, neural receptors and neural development. Alcohol consumption by pregnant woman affects the fetus greatly causing Fetal Alcohol Spectrum Disorder. Alcohol on entering the liver sets off cascading epigenetic changes resulting in liver damage, liver cancer and immunological problems. Various chemotherapeutic agents like methadone are used for alcohol detoxification.

Track 4: CNS and Addictive Disorders

Central Nervous System consists of the brain and spinal cord which is affected by some neurological conditions that are associated with substance use disorders. The CNS gets slow down or speed up by the mind-altering drugs and the drugs also affects the autonomic functions necessary for living, such as body temperature, heart rate, blood pressure and respiration. The brain’s neurotransmitters or chemical messengers get affect by this addictive substance. The addictive drugs anticipate the nerves in the mind by secreting dopamine a joy chemical which affects their CNS normal function.

Track 5: Dual Diagnosis - Mental Illness Co-happening with Substance Abuse

Dual Diagnosis is a condition when a person experiences both a substance misuse issue and another psychological well-being issue, for example, sorrow or a nervousness issue. People suffering from a mental health illness may turn to alcohol or alternative drugs to come out of depression. One of the things that make dual diagnoses so difficult to treat is that it is hard to know where certain symptoms are coming from an integrated intervention the best treatment for dual diagnosis where a person receives care for both their diagnosed mental illness. The causes for dual diagnosis is difficult to approach as they can be caused in any way which affects their mental ability and it is difficult to identify as the studies apply differing criteria in defining developmental disabilities and their mental illness.

Track 7: Drug Addiction

Drug addiction is a complex neurobiological disease that affects a person's brain and behaviour and leads to an inability to control the use of a legal or illegal drug or medication. It is considered as a brain disease because excessive use of drug changes the brain by increasing the dopamine secretion and it induces the brain signals. Without proper treatment, these brain changes can affect the lives.

The proper medication for addiction helps the process easier by easing the cravings and side effects. Drug addiction can also be treated with proper treatment including aftercare program where drug addicts can find lasting relief from the damage of chemical dependency, regardless of how long they’ve been addicted.

They have a self-worth and sense of identity, sound personal and peer bonds, an ability to be productive and to learn, and a capacity to tackle developmental challenges and use cultural resources to exploit growth. Besides, the mental health of children and juveniles is crucial for their active social and economic contribution. The mental state of youngsters and adolescents may be influenced by different factors. Risk factors increase the probability of mental state issues, whereas protecting factors moderate the consequences of risk exposure. Policies, plans and specific interventions ought to be designed in a technique that reduces risk factors and enhances protecting factors. Child and Adolescent Development (CHAD) is intended to furnish understudies with exactly inferred learning about bio-physical, sociopassionate, and intellectual formative points of reference from origination through youth; individual and social contrasts; and regular varieties being developed .

Track 12: Infant Mental Health

Infant Mental Health (IMH)   is defined as the healthy social and emotional development of a young child. It is the ability of a young child to express emotions and form close and secures interpersonal relationships. Infant mental health is best understood from the perspective of brain development in the first years of life and the influence of what does or does not happen. It is during this critical window of development when the foundation is laid for all future relationships and learning. IMH encompasses the importance of early attachment relationships and experiences that will either promote social-emotional health and well-being or will set in motion a negative trajectory that is played out throughout the life span.

Track 13: Addiction induced Brain Disease

Addiction is a chronic disease that affects the brain in multiple ways leading to compulsive and uncontrollable use. Unfortunately, the media’s portrayals of addiction often show characters going through detox and then never having much of an issue with addiction again. During active addiction, our brain has learned to seek drugs to relieve stresspainanxiety, and just to feel good. Even though we know that a drug can be harmful, it’s incredibly difficult to resist. Alcohol and drug addiction therapy can help re-write the effects of drugs in our brain, learn to cope with negative feelings, and learn to avoid and deal with cravings. Drugs interact with body and brain to alter emotions, behaviours and moods by changing brain chemistry and a person’s perceptions.

Track 14: Addiction: Pharmacology

Addiction Pharmacology  makes the recovery process easier by easing the side effects. The pharmacology of addiction is being studied further not only for acute effects but also for the mechanisms that lead to drug seeking and addiction. Some individuals continue to intake medicine which leads to side effects and causes addiction. When the drugs are consumed more these drugs can have serious side effects, including physical dependence and tolerance. Ironically, the opiate addiction is treated having some addictive properties Many pharmacological agents began to explore the efficacy of existing alcohol treatments, and several medications are currently being used in alcohol rehabilitation and more new medications to help treat alcoholism have been developed. Science has produced a new anti-addiction IM medication for the treatment of alcohol dependence which is called Vivitrol TM, injected version of naltrexone which is also recently approved by FDA, thereby drastically reducing or completely stopping alcohol use for alcoholics receiving the medication and attending active treatment programs.

Track 15: Neuro- Toxicology Neuro-toxicology deals with the adverse effects of natural and synthetic chemical agents on the nervous system. These toxins affect the neurons and alter the activity of the nervous system. When an individual consumed addictive substance, the body responds to the substance by influencing neurotransmitter that affects the cellular membrane integrity. The treatment approach to neurotoxicity is only by eliminating or reducing the toxic substance by providing therapy to relieve symptoms or by providing support.
