Raphael Heffron is Professor for Global Energy Law & Sustainability at the Centre for Energy, Petroleum and Mineral Law and Policy at the University of Dundee. He is a graduate of both Oxford (MSc) and Cambridge (MPhil & PhD). His work is international and combines a mix of energy law, policy and economics. He has published over 120 publications of different types and his research has been cited over 700 times in the last three years. Professor Heffron’s research all has a principal focus on achieving a just transition to a low-carbon economy. Raphael was elected to the Royal Society of Edinburgh Young Academy of Scotland in 2018. Professor Rafiq Islam, Ph.D. is the President of Emertec Research and Development Ltd. and an adjunct Professor at Dalhousie University, where he was Canada’s first Killam Chair in petroleum engineering during 2000-2005. He is the executive editor of the Journal of Nature Science and Sustainable Technology and the Journal of Characterization and Development of Novel Materials. He serves on the board of Journal of Sustainable Energy Engineering (JSEE) and several other journals and corporations. He is known as the most published engineer in the world. He has coined several terms, such as ‘green petroleum’ and ‘sustainable petroleum development’, and economics of intangibles’. His ground-breaking approach in research, training and education is summarized in his book: Reconstituting the Curriculum (Wiley-Scrivener, 2013). Speight has doctorate degrees in Chemistry, Geological Sciences, and Petroleum Engineering and is the author of more than 80 books in petroleum science, petroleum engineering, biosciences, and environmental sciences as well as books relating to ethics and ethical issues. In the past 15 years, his work branched out into the field of applied as well as theoretical engineering. Additionally, he has established a research track in the area of modeling and simulation dealing with extremely complex problems in the oil and gas and Civil Engineering fields. Part of his research in the area of geotechnical engineering was on controlling the expansion in clays using polymers. Expansive clays are causing major infrastructural damages in many parts of the U.S. including Houston, Dallas and Denver. The polymer treatment method developed by him will be very effective in controlling the expansion in clays. His research was focused on the experimental studies and mathematical modeling of the performance of the smart cement, smart drilling mud and polymer treated expansive clay. he has developed several mathematical models to predict the behaviour of smart cement, smart drilling mud and polymer treated expansive clays. He has also developed models to predict the curing, rheological properties and piezoresistive behaviour of smart cement. He has also developed a new model to predict the rheological behaviour of drilling muds. The refereed journal publications are in Petroleum Science and Engineering, Geotechnical and Geological Engineering and ASTM Testing and Evaluation. His research work was also presented at the Offshore Technology Conferences in 2014, 2015, 2016 and 2017 where there were about 100,000 attendees from around the world. His research work was also presented at the American Association of Drilling Engineers, Center for Innovative Grouting Materials and Technology and Texas Hurricane Center of Innovative Technology Conferences. Professor A.Y. Zekri received his B.Sc., M.S., and PhD degrees from the University of Southern California. He has spent more than two decades in the petroleum industry. Professor Reza Rezaee of Curtin’s Department of Petroleum Engineering has a PhD degree in Reservoir Characterization. He has over 26 years’ experience in academia being responsible for both teaching and research. During his career, he has been engaged in several research projects supported by major oil and gas companies and these commissions, together with his supervisory work at various universities, have involved a wide range of achievements. During his research career, he has led several major research projects funded by various oil and gas companies such as WAPET, WMC, MESA, Santos, NIOC, PEDEC, Devon Energy, DMP, Buru, Woodside, Carnarvon, Norwest and Anlec. He has received a total of more than $2.2M funds through his collaborative research projects. He has supervised over 70 M.Sc. and PhD students during his university career to date. He has published more than 130 peer-reviewed journal and conference papers and is the author of 4 books on petroleum geology, logging and log interpretation and gas shale reservoirs. His research has been mostly on integrated solutions for reservoir characterization, formation evaluation and petrophysics. As a founder of “Unconventional Gas Research Group” of Australia, he has established a unique and highly sophisticated research lab at the Department of Petroleum Engineering, Curtin University. Gamal Alusta received his B.Sc. degree from Tripoli University-Libya, and his MPhil, and PhD degrees in petroleum engineering from Heriot-Watt University-UK. He was awarded the Henri Adam Diploma by the Institution of Structural Engineers UK and the Silver award by the Permanent Way Institute UK for paper published in their journals.HE worked at three UK Universities – at Queen Mary- London, South Wales and Ulster, and two Palestinian Universities, at Al Quds, where he set up the Department of Materials Engineering and at Birzeit university as Professor of Civil Engineering. His major research areas relate to the structural performance, sustainability and asset management with emphasis on durability and rehabilitation of concrete structures. He has published on the subject in international journals, including the Corrosion Journal and the Journal of Structural Engineers and ACI Journal. He has conducted consultancy work on bridge structural rehabilitation for Kent County Council in England, the Northern Ireland Road Service and Docklands Light Railway in London and at Al Quds University-Jerusalem.
