Biography :

I am retired as a child psychiatrist now I trained in Newcastle, England where Paediatrics was strong. The joint collaboration between Prof Issy Kolvin & Prof John Webb kept a strong interest in Clinical Paediatrics during my Child Psychiatry training. I spent 6 years in Birmingham before my long appointment here at the Royal Hospital for Sick Children Edinburgh. This gave me a close relationship with my Paediatric colleagues & teaching opportunities to medical students, nurses, & psychologist. After my retirement, I had brief teaching experiences in Armenia, Dohuk, Iraqi Kurdistan & Palestine where I learned about Child Mental health problems in new contexts. I would describe my interests as those of a pediatrician with an interest in Child Mental Health. I still think we are at our best for our patients when we work collaboratively. as there is "no physical health without mental health"

Speech-language pathologist, Speech-language pathologist
Vanderbilt University , USA
Biography :

I have a master's degree in speech-language pathology, a minor in business administration, and a publishing contract for speech-, language-, and literacy-related evaluation and treatment materials. I'm a trained musician with years of private and educational training, composition and conducting experience, and an extensive knowledge of music in many genres, eras, as well as with rules, rhythm, and their impact on the music. I'm working with a music producer and musicians, which has allowed me to connect music with my other areas of expertise while also addressing psychoacoutics in real time, language use in music, and much more. I achieved fluency in American Sign Language, Signed Exact English, and Manual Sign. This, with my additional completed academic minors in audiology and cognitive and developmental psychology, has enabled me to connect my other work with that related to people who are deaf and hard-of-hearing. After my advisor left my first program and there were no other faculty members who could work with me, I became Vanderbilt Medical School's 3rd graduate transfer student in the history of the medical school. I had some wonderful opportunities during my time at Vanderbilt and in Nashville. I'm presently determining which program I will finish my PhD studies with. I have had a great deal of support through these transitions from the faculty and administrators I worked with in the past. My studies and interests shifted. They began with child language. I now study, have training, and/or academic and educational experiences with the following: neuroscience and music, psychology, psychoacoustics, technology, as well as brain mapping, plasticity, and related methods and technology. I develop technology, evaluation and treatment materials, and programs for speech, language, education, people who are deaf and hard-of-hearing, to change the human experience with music, as well as methods and technology for studying neural activity by connecting with my wide network of peers, colleagues, and others, as well as by drawing on my knowledge of biomedical nanotechnology, biomedical engineering, and techniques for imaging and related methods to study neurological activity. With a brother who is a nanoscientist and many colleague aquaintences in equally relatable fields, it felt natural to tie some of my original ideas together with those related to nanoneuroscience, as just one example of my unique perspective, interests, and research direction.
