São Paulo, the homonymous state capital is one of the 26 states of the Federative Republic of Brazil and is named after Saint Paul of Tarsus. It is the richest brazillian state and a major industrial complex. It is nick named as "locomotive of Brazil". São Paulo has the second highest Human Development Index (HDI) and GDP per capita, the fourth lowest infant mortality rate and the third lowest rate of illiteracy among the federative units of Brazil.It is ranked as the 12th largest city on the planet. With more than 45 million inhabitants in 2014, São Paulo is the most populous Brazilian state and the third most populous political unit of South America. The city also has demand in gastronomic culinary tourism after receiving the title of the "World Capital of Gastronomy. Cultural tourism is also highlighted given the amount of museums, theatres and events like the Biennale and the Biennale of Arts of the Book.
