Sheila Krishnadath has graduated in Medicine and obtained her PhD at the Erasmus University in Rotterdam, the Netherlands. She completed postdoctoral studies at the Mayo Foundation, Rochester MN, USA. Currently she is a principal investigator and gastroenterologist at the Academic Medical Center in Amsterdam. She has published over 100 peer reviewed papers in reputed journals. She obtained a professorship in 2013 in translational gastroenterology with a special focus on esophageal malignancies. Her expertise is on fundamental and translational studies within the inflammation-metaplasia-cancer sequence of lesions in the upper gastro-intestinal tract. These studies aim on understanding pathogenesis, developing biomarker sets for predicting disease progression in premalignant lesions and developing novel therapies for instance for targeting the cancer-stroma cross talk.
