Session on Medicinal Chemistry and Drug Discovery

Medicinal compounds are organic in nature and are classified into small organic molecules and biologics. The most common practice of medicinal chemistry is aiming to discover and develop new therapeutic agents by involving synthetic organic chemistry and computational chemistry in a close-knit combination with chemical biology, enzymologyand structural biology. The interdisciplinary team-work at the interface between chemistry, biology and medicine is required for Drug research. An essential aspect of drug designing is to understand the principal component in the natural product that is having the therapeutic benefit. The important role that medicinal chemistry plays is in developing a drug with therapeutic benefits. The market of the pharmaceutical industry is driven by Medicinal chemistry. Today, the primary aim of drug designing is to design a drug for a known target and develop a molecule by completely understanding the active principle with therapeutic potential, which is then approved by the Food and DrugAdministration (FDA). This process of designing a new molecule to the established target is done using Computer-Assisted Drug Designing (CADD).

Session on Medicinal Organic Chemistry

In Medicinal chemistry, compounds used as medicines are most often organic compounds. The Applications for MedicinalChemistry and Organic Chemistry Concepts provides a valuable strengthener for understanding the relationship between those molecular properties chemical the bonding that help to determine medicinal activity. In Organic Chemistry, molecules contain carbon atoms. Carbon with a valency of 4 electrons can create four bonds in accordance with the octet rule. It can form single, double, triple bonds by sharing its valence electrons. It can form ring structures like in benzene. Carbon is capable of forming alcohols, ethers, acids, Esters, Ketones, aldehydes which are not possible by other atoms in the periodic table. This is the reason organic chemistry is also called Carbon Chemistry or Chemistry of carbon compounds.

Session on Analytical Chemistry

Analytical chemistry is a branch of chemistry which is an important tier of environmental protection and has been traditionally linked to compliance and/or exposure monitoring activities for environmental contaminants. Chemical analyses can be qualitative, as in the identification of the chemical components in a sample, or quantitative, as in the determination of the amount of a certain component in the sample. Namely, methods developed for regulated contaminants may not be appropriate and/or applicable to risk management scenarios. The underlying foundations of diagnostic science and a portion of the standards utilized as a part of current instruments are from conventional systems. Traditional technique subdivided into two strategies: the subjective and the quantitative strategy for examination.

Session on Pharmacology and Toxicology

Pharmacology deals with the study of the action of the drug on the body. Pharmacology is the investigation of the associations that happens between the living life form and chemicals. Pharmacokinetics and pharmacodynamics are the two main pillars of pharmacology. Toxicology is the study of adverse effects of chemical substances on living things and their environment. Toxicology can also be termed as a tool for diagnosing and treating toxins. It is the branch of science based on nature. These adverse reactions may occur at various levels within the body such as an organ, a type of cell, or a specific biochemicalThe basic toxicology principle is dose-response. Toxicology dose depends on the concentration and duration of the chemicals. Toxins are specific proteins produced by living organisms.

By last year, the volume of sales increased 4.4% according to the Society of Chemical Manufacturers & Affiliates. Due to product innovation in markets including pharmaceutical, agricultural, and industrial fine chemicals the growth is also expected this year. For example, the U.S. Food & Drug Administration accepted 46 drugs in 2017, more than twice as many as in 2016. The growth in drug chemicals results from customer needs for complex or highly potent molecules. Since the corporate tax rate is lower in the U.S., fine chemicals firms will have a stronger position than compared to Europe.

According to the American Chemistry Council (AAC), all went well for specialty chemical output in 2018 due to the persistent growth of in the U.S., continued economic expansion in Asia, and a renewal of demand in Europe. A global production rise of 3.0% was projected by the trade association in 2018 after a 2.5% increase in 2017.

AAC says, 2018 will be the growth year, with chemical output expanding up to 3.7%. According to the Institute for Supply Management, industrial firms increased capital spending by 8.7% in 2017 and will boost it an additional 2.7% this year. According to Deutsche Bank, the global economy will expand by 3.8% in 2018 a bit faster than the expected U.S. rate of 2.6%.

According to the European Chemical Industry Council, the chemical output is set to increase by 2% in 2018, after growing 3% across the European Union in 2017. Stepping up investment in R&D and help the region transition to a resource-efficient, low-carbon, and circular economy will be the results of the growth in the sector. According to the association, Europe’s chemical industry is now responsible for 1.1% of the EU’s gross domestic product and 1.2 million jobs. The heartbeat of Europe’s chemical industry, Germany, the forecast is for chemical sales to rise 3% in 2018 to more than $230 billion.

It was estimated that world sales of chemicals amounted to over $3500 billion in the year 2011. Production in Asian countries like China has increased its percentage share from 8.1 to 30.4. The proportion has dipped in Europe from 29.8 to 17.0% and that in North America from 27.6 to 16.3%. In 20 years the chemical manufacture has increased by 80% having the core industry in Asia.
