Why Should Attend?
Everyone
have the opportunity to explore the leading edge of the discipline, and making
connections in the scientific community can be of huge benefit for an
interested in embarking on a scientific career. Walking around the general
poster session and attending oral presentations will allow scientific markers
to get acquainted with the most important recent discoveries circulating in the
field. This can help to identify potential projects, laboratories and
institutions that they would like to work with in the future.
Scientific Program!
Cell
Biology 2017, despite the popular media depiction of scientists as antisocial
individuals, Annual Congress is an inherently collaborative profession. It may
be hard to see the exchanges across laboratories, but the accretion of
knowledge requires the communication of complex ideas from one scientist to
another. Although the advent of the e-mail has largely supplanted the necessity
of face-to-face conversations, this cross-fertilization of ideas still takes
place during annual congress, where researchers present their projects, discuss
their findings, network with potential collaborators and socialize with their
peers.

Cell biology is a branch of
biology that studies the different structures and functions of the cell and
mainly focuses on the idea of the cell as the basic unit of life. Cell biology
explains the structure, organization of the organelles, their physiological
properties, metabolic processes, Signaling pathways, life cycle, and
interactions with their surroundings. This is carried out both on a microscopic
and molecular level as it encompasses prokaryotic cells and eukaryotic cells.
Knowing the components of cells and how cells work is fundamental to all
biological sciences; it is also essential for research in bio-medical fields
such as cancer, and other diseases. Research in cell biology is closely related
to genetics, biochemistry, molecular biology, immunology, and developmental
biology.
2.
Molecularand single cell Biology
Molecular
biology is the study of the molecular basis of biological activity between
biomolecules in the various systems of a cell, including the interactions
between DNA, RNA, and proteins and their biosynthesis, and the regulation of
these interactions as well. On the other hand, Single Cell Biology focuses on
new technologies and their applications in medical and biological analyses at
single-cell resolution and often at a genome-wide scale enabling a new
understanding of complex biological phenomena. Single-cell biology is a new
field combining multiple disciplines. The technologies developed in genomics,
transcriptomics, epigenomics, proteomics, metabolomics and other fields are
often used in this new discipline.
A
cell is the smallest working unit of all living organisms which is capable of
performing life functioning. Therefore it is also called as a fundamental unit
of life. The different types of cell include- prokaryotic cell, plant and
animal cell. The size and the shape of
the cell range from millimetre to microns, which are generally based on the
type of function that it performs. A cell generally varies in their shapes. Few
are spherical, rod, flat, concave, curved, rectangular, oval and etc. These
cells can only be seen under microscope.
4.
Anatomyand Aspects of Cells
A
cell is the smallest unit of life that can replicate independently, and cells
are often called the "building blocks of life". The study of cells is
called cell biology. Cells consist of cytoplasm enclosed within a membrane,
which contains many biomolecules such as proteins and nucleic acids. Organisms
can be classified as unicellular (consisting of a single cell; including
bacteria) or multicellular (including plants and animals). While the number of
cells in plants and animals varies from species to species, humans contain more
than 10 trillion (1012) cells. Most plant and animal cells are visible only
under a microscope, with dimensions between 1 and 100 micrometres.
5.
Cellularprocesses and Multicellularity
The
cellular processes that depend on the energy from ATP are intracellular
signalling, DNA and RNA synthesis, assembly of the cytoskeleton and
transportation across cell membranes. Breakdown of ATP into ADP is the major
source of energy. Multicellular organisms are organisms that consist of more
than one cell. All species of animals, land plants and most fungi are
multicellular. Multicellular organisms arise in various different ways, for
example by cell division or by aggregation of many single cells.
6.
BiologicalActivity of cells
Cellular
activity is the sum of all protein functions and improved cellular activities
enhance health and performance. Better cellular activity leads to improvements
in: energy production, oxygen utilization, cell metabolism, response to free
radical damage and many additional protein functions.
7.
Cellsignaling pathways and mechanisms
Cell
signaling is part of a process that governs basic activities of cells and
coordinates all cell actions. The ability of cells to perceive and correctly
respond to their microenvironment is the basis of development, tissue repair,
and immunity as well as normal tissue homeostasis. Errors in signaling
interactions and cellular information processing leads to diseases such as
cancer, autoimmunity, and diabetes.
8.
Techniquesused to study cells
Cells
may be observed under the microscope, using several different techniques which
include optical microscopy, transmission electron microscopy, scanning electron
microscopy, fluorescence microscopy, correlative light-electron microscopy, and
confocal microscopy. The other methods to study cells are as follows: Cell
culture, immunohistochemistry, Computational genomics, DNA microarrays, In situ
hybridization, PCR, Transfection etc.
9.
Stem cells and applications
Stem cells are a class of
undifferentiated cells that are able to differentiate into specialized cell
types. Stem cells come from two main sources: Embryos formed during
embryological development (embryonic stem cells) and Adult tissue (adult stem
cells). Both types are generally characterized by their potency and potential
to differentiate into different cell types such as skin, muscle, bone, etc.
10.
Typesof cell and gene therapy
Cell
therapy is defined as the administration of live whole cells or maturation of a
specific cell population in a patient for the treatment of a disease.
Mesenchymal Stem Cells are immunomodulatory, multipotent and fast proliferating
for which they can be used for a wide range of treatments including immune-modulatory
therapy, bone and cartilage regeneration, myocardium regeneration and the
treatment of Hurler syndrome, a skeletal and neurological disorder. Whereas,
Gene therapy is defined as the administration of a specific DNA or RNA that
modify the expression of an individual’s genes or corrects abnormal genes
Market Analysis
Importance and Scope
“Cell Biology, Stem Cell Research and Gene Therapy" is important due to human development which is only from stem cells. As such, an understanding of their unique attributes and control can teach us more about early human development. Diseases such as cancer results from abnormal cell proliferation and differentiation. Which means an understanding of things going wrong in stem cell division can help us find ways to prevent the dysfunctional changes or employ effective ways to treat them with targeted drugs. Stem cells can give rise to the various types of cells found in the human body. Stem cells have the potential to evolve into various types of human tissue, which has led to a growing acknowledgement of the medical potential of this property. Stem cell therapy is becoming increasingly common in the treatment of various diseases and the increasing research in the field is expected to further drive the medical applications of stem cells in the coming years.

Why it’s in Toronto, Canada
Toronto is the most populous
city in Canada and the provincial capital of Ontario. It is located in Southern
Ontario on the northwestern shore of Lake Ontario. The earlier name of Toronto
is York during late 18th century; the city was ransacked in the Battle of York
during the War of 1812. In 1834, York became a city and renamed to Toronto.
Toronto is a clean, safe cosmopolitan city with a wonderful network of parks,
recreational, and cultural facilities. Toronto is the home of four professional
sports teams and the third largest English-speaking theatre district in the
world, behind New York and London. One of the world’s most ethnically diverse
cities, it is home to more than 80 ethnic communities from Africa, Asia, and
Europe. Toronto is also the business centre of Canada.
Toronto is the leading tourism destination in Canada, attracting more than 25 million Canadian, American and international visitors annually (Tourism Toronto, 2012). In 2012, the Toronto region welcomed 9.9 million overnight visitors. Visitors to Toronto spend about $5.1 billion in direct expenditures during their visits. Visitors to the Toronto region support more than 329,000 people who work in tourism and hospitality. Based on 2013 estimates, Toronto welcomed 13.69 million overnight visitors. 1.42 million visitors arrived from overseas markets (all countries other than Canada and the U.S.) with a further 2.18 million Americans staying overnight – a 1.7 per cent increase over 2012 and a 9.7 per cent increase over 2010 (Tourism Toronto, 2013).The U.K. remains Toronto's largest overseas visitor market with 201,000 arrivals in 2013.
